TO Gov. Little: More School, No Potato Alcatraz

We need to make our governor care as much about public schools as we do. So, I encourage everyone to call him with this message:

Governor Little,

Please stand up for Idaho public school kids by standing up to the runaway federal government. Call a special session to repeal the new school voucher program and dedicate that $50 million to public education.

I’ve waited over a week for Brad Little to do something–anything–about the feds freezing $33 million in Idaho education funding. That freeze came AFTER school districts had set next year’s budgets, as they are required to do by law.

This is not rocket science.

When they take away the money, kids suffer. School districts can’t honor teacher contracts. They have to start piling kids into classrooms like livestock at the sales yard.

President Trump is making decisions with all the care and thought of an angry gambling addict on a weeklong jag. And the one person in Idaho–our feckless governor–who is best positioned to stand up to Trump’s reckless edicts remains silent as Trump slashes public education funding.

Worse, Brad Little has promised to spend money on the Red State Alcatraz project.

In case you missed it, the Whitehouse—honestly, it breaks my heart to say this–the White House is telling Republican-led States to build concentration camps like Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz.”

On July 6, Gov. Little’s office told Fox News, he “is planning to roll out new details on Idaho’s efforts to support President Trump’s agenda.”

That’s right, Potato Alcatraz is probably in the works.

Maybe they’ll put it in Minidoka where a WWII Idaho concentration camp held 13,000 Japanese Americans because of their race.

Look. So much is happening and so much is bad. And we don’t have time for polite conversations with our hoodwinked neighbors about “conservative ideas.”

Fascism is on the march.

But we need to keep fighting, to keep demanding, to keep questioning.

Maybe, right now, the best we can do is make a ruckus. So be it. But we are duty bound to make the biggest loudest damned ruckus we can.

Silence is complicity.
