Dear Zealots in the Idaho Capitol

Congratulations! You’ve accidentally helped Idaho. You really did! You reminded us that–despite political differences–most of us agree that politicians have no business telling us how to live.

Bless your hearts! By peeking through our windows, and by spying on our books, and by peeping over bathroom stalls (eww), and by judging, judging, judging who we love and how we raise our kids … you are uniting us all.

I know you didn’t do it on purpose.

I know you don’t like it when different people believe different things.

I know you don’t understand exactly what I am talking about.

Hopefully this small sample of your bad ideas will help:

Library book bans–We love librarians, books, and ideas. We don’t love censorship.

Attacks on trans people–It’s mean and cruel. We love our kids. We don’t love bullies.

Moments of silence in public schools–It’s ironic that you're lying about this by saying it’s not the state promoting religion in public school.

And you sure fangirled over that bill forcing sheriffs to work for federal ICE agents. Looks like you’re not such fans of “local control” afterall.

There’s so much more. SO. MUCH. MORE.

In parting, I encourage you to take more moments of silence when you are about to tell us how we all ought to live our lives.

See you on the campaign trail,

Terri Pickens

Idaho Democratic Governor Candidate
