Why? The law could stop millions of Americans from voting.

Who? Hardest hit are young people, people of color, and married women whose last names are not on their birth certificates or passports. And, really, it’s bad for a whole lot of others.

I know that Crapo and Risch don’t oppose President Trump’s autocratic ambition. AND they don’t care about constituents. But their staffers keep simple “YES” and “NO” lists on hot issues. Big “NO” lists scares them, like last year when Republicans tried to sell Idaho’s public lands. The big “NO” list actually persuaded these two to squeak up in disapproval.

Honestly, you’d think old school “conservatives” would be leading the charge against this bill.

They used to care about Idaho state sovereignty. Now, the feds are coming straight for our sacred right to vote.

Barely a decade ago, “conservatives” warned that the federal government was going to roll into Idaho, down from Canada, in tanks emblazoned with the words “FEMA” and “United Nations.” That’s still crazy. But it’s even crazier that some version of that psycho fantasy came true. Only, the invasion has been from within: unmarked rental vans, filled with heavily armed, angry masked men, who demand to see our citizenship papers. Oh, and of course, every time this militia known as ICE shoots one of us, they call us “domestic terrorists.”

THE SAVE ACT IS HOW THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INVADES IDAHO. (Well, that, and Gov. Little has already praised ICE for holding Idaho kids at gun point in Wilder).

It’s no accident that this law disproportionately hurts women either. “They” don’t like how we vote for sound economics and public education. And, their “law and order” message rings hollow when Trump’s Dept. of Justice won’t investigate influence-peddling pedophiles.

And for my friends who want me to “talk about Idaho issues”? I 100% agree with the frustration behind that observation. Right now, our Legislature is hellbent on breaking what generations of Idahoans built to make Idaho such a great place.

They’re attacking public schools, young workers, rural hospitals, and seniors trying to stay in their homes.

But this national struggle is Idaho’s struggle. We have to work twice as hard. Be twice as vigilant. We have to keep one eye on the Legislature, and the other on Washington, D.C.
