I am proud of the thousands of Idahoans who stood with me this past year and said, “we will not be bullied anymore.”
I am honored to be one of you.
Together, we battled the world’s most powerful forces. We stood up to entrenched political power, we stood up to insidious theocratic bigotry, we stood up to the growing menace of the billionaire class and the politicians they control.
We stood for freedom. We stood for what was right. We found our courage and we stood up!
Tuesday was both a great evening and a terrible evening for us. It was great to watch the national reckoning for Trump politics. It was terrible for Idaho to remain behind the electoral curve. It was heartbreaking to see Proposition One fall to the lies of the opposition.
The result in no way diminishes my admiration for the good people–volunteers and candidates and voters–who worked tirelessly to show Idaho a brighter path. Thank you all. Democratic legislative and county candidates showed us what true leaders look like.
We’ve elected good people who will not let the State control our bodies, folks who know the State has zero business in personal medical decisions. Folks who will fight for our freedoms.
The State serves us — not the other way around.
On that note, I am torn on how to respond to Brad Little’s re-election.
I honestly wish him well–for the sake of all of us affected by his decisions. However, it feels wrong to congratulate him after he ran a disgraceful campaign:
He refused to attend public forums to discuss his policies–that shows disdain for voters.
He refused to debate me–that shows contempt for our democratic process.
He hid behind millions in political donations from billionaires and wealthy CEOs–that’s just plain corrupt.
Yes. I risk being called “misbehaved” … but you know what they say about “well-behaved women” making history. In the end, I refuse to stop speaking truth to power just to be polite.
Believe me, I really meant it when I said, many many times, “Truth Matters.”
Thanks to all who hosted gatherings for me, who contributed their hard-earned money so I could travel this state and reach voters with advertising. Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time, energy, and dedication to this campaign. You amaze me! Thanks to the Idaho Democratic Party for being a fearless and loyal partner. Thanks to my staff for helping me run a creative, honest, and meaningful campaign.
And thanks, again, to everyone who voted for me.
