Celebrating America's 250th Birthday

This Fourth of July I will join you and millions of other Americans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

I am proud of how far our country has come. I am excited to help lead us to a better future. I know that it’s easy to feel like America is more divided than united. That feeling is magnified during election season. I certainly talk loudly and often of the many ways the incumbent governor and his allies have chiseled away at the freedoms that our founders fought and died to preserve–and I stand by those statements.

Despite my deep concerns, I do not believe our divisions are terminal. Dissent is not disunion. Our differences do not weaken us. Our differences teach us to find common cause. Our differences teach us to learn from each other. Our union is strong because we disagree. When people of goodwill work toward solutions for their differences, we discover innovative ways to prosper, together, as a nation united.

It’s an honor to run for governor during such an auspicious moment in our nation’s history. I have faith in Idahoans and our fellow American citizens that we will rise together and meet the challenges of today.

Happy birthday, America!
